A Quick Lap of Tokyo R246 in a Motul GT-R

This definitely isn’t the first lap we’ve seen of Tokyo R-246, but it is one of the fastest. With the notoriously fast GT Academy 2010 finalist Daniel Holland at the wheel, this clip is considerably more fun to watch than most of the others — and it sounds pretty good, too. Thanks to CoolColJ for digging this up!

Nismo Rear Differential Cooler for Nissan GT-R Coming Soon

On the circuit and even with some hard street driving, GT-R owners will know that the transmission temperature has a habit of rising quite rapidly. To compound that, on the GT-R, the transmission is integrated with the rear differential housing and because of this, heat energy is freely transferred between them.

In Nismo’s testing experience, with their Tokachi 24hrs race car and their Super Taikyu R35, cooling the rear differential has been surprisingly effective at lowering transmission temperatures. So much so that they’re now releasing their in-house developed rear differential cooler as a kit for the GT-R.

The kit features a electric oil pump, braided hoses, cooler core, and wiring harness for automatic or manual in-cabin operation. When installed it increases the diff oil capacity by 2 liters which is a help by itself.

In Nismo’s testing of the ClubSport GT-R on Sodegaura Circuit in Chiba, they were happy to see the diff oil temperature at no time exceeded 140 degrees C. Exactly what the transmission temperature was like during the testing is not known though.

The diff oil cooler is due for release in April and we will have availability details at that time.

Dynamic Autosports Hankook Gruppe-S Drift GT-R Project Update: Part IV

More from the guys at Gruppe-S today. This time they’ve documented the completion of their custom transmission mount for the G-Force 4-Speed dog box. As you’d know the GT-R’s rear mounted trans-axle has absolutely nothing in common with the engine mounted G-Force tranny so you could have foresaw the problems they’d have bolting it up.

Out came the welder and with a lot of hard work and effort the guys have put the problem behind them by fabricating a heavy duty support structure that should hold up to the stresses of drifting. As a result, the transmission is officially mounted in the car in addition to the engine which was mounted up last week.

What the guys will do with the rear subframe now there’s no transmission in it is going to be the next chapter in this story I’m sure.

Forza Motorsport 3 Title Update – 3/9/2010

Hey everyone, I’m happy to report that the latest Forza Motorsport 3 patch (codenamed TU4) has just cleared Xbox 360 certification and will be going live sometime in the nether hours this morning (3/9) – anywhere between 2AM to 4AM PST. The obvious question you guys are anxious to have answered is what the patch addresses and adds to FM3. Before we continue, we’ll be monitoring the comments section for trolling and unconstructive comments, including the repeated request for public multiplayer lobbies. We are currently not working on bringing back public lobbies. Thanks!

Below is a list of features improved/added and affected with the TU4 patch:

New multiplayer matchmaking game modes! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing a bunch of new hoppers to multiplayer, including:

Week 1 (3/9) – Rolling out at 5:00PM PST

In the new Team Playground Category:

  • Cat and Mouse
  • Team Tag (Keep the It)
  • Team Multi-Class Racing
  • Team Last Car Standing
  • Team Stock Car (yes, the oval kind)

In the Playground category:

  • Tag (Virus) on Benchmark High Speed Ring

In the Circuit Racing category:

  • A Class (Including DLC tracks)

Week 2 (3/16) – Rolling out at 5:00PM PST

In the new Team Circuit Racing category:

  • Team R1 Class
  • Team R2 Class
  • Team R3 Class
  • Team S Class
  • Team A Class
  • Team B Class
  • Team C Class
  • Team D Class
  • Team E Class
  • Team F Class

In the Drift category:

  • Team Drift (Any Class)

Week 3 (3/23) – Rolling out at 5:00PM PST

In the new Multi-Class Circuit Racing category:

  • R1 and A Class
  • R2 and B Class
  • R3 and C Class
  • S and D Class
  • A and E Class
  • B and F Class
  • R1 and F Class

Also added with the patch:

  • Team balancing on team multiplayer modes in hoppers, including the addition of AI to smaller teams.
  • Stickier drag strips in drag mode, including the inclusion of peak tire temperatures at the beginning of race.
  • Ability for Turn 10’s community team to control XP reward payout on a hopper basis via server settings. Yes, now you may be able to get a lot more XP points for playing a certain style of multiplayer game.
  • Engine rev control added to the 3-2-1 pre-race moment for players using manual-with-clutch transmission in Drag mode only.
  • Ability for Turn 10’s community team to turn off TruSkill display in lobbies to avoid being kicked for your TruSkill rank. This is a per hopper setting.
  • Fixed a couple bugs, including the 6th gear shift and the transmission swap gear ratio exploits. A partial Leaderboard wipe will come week of 3/15 – those of you caught using this exploit starting from 2/26 will be permanently banned from all features of Forza Motorsport 3 online.
  • We’ve also fixed a handful of minor issues including occasional shadow popping in multiple car heats, a controller layout (#11) that had gas and brakes reversed on the triggers, etc.

Someone wanted to know whether there will be changes to the current hoppers that are live in order to make room for the new hoppers coming online. Very good question, and the answer is yes. This will be a 2 part process. First of all, we will make some immediate changes to hoppers by downsizing.

  • Circuit RWD will be consolidated into just A Class RWD and will be moved into Playground. The category just does not have the numbers to sustain itself as a 5 hopper system.
  • A Class Expert moves from Playground to Circuit category.
  • On a weekly basis, we will be looking at all hopper numbers. Those that do not maintain a decent number of players during peak primetime gaming hours will get killed.
  • We will narrow down our set of hoppers until we have a core number of hoppers that are sustainable and the community are interested in (by voting with their game time).

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 Audi R8 LMS evolution – Click above for high-res image gallery

2009 proved to be a very successful opening campaign for Audi’s new customer race car, the R8 LMS. Eight cars were sold to a variety of teams and between them, the cars won 23 races and three national and international GT championships. For 2010, Audi has produced a new evolution version of the R8 LMS, and by mid-April, the German automaker expects to have delivered a total of 20 cars.

The alterations to the 2010 evolution R8 are apparently targeted at improving service life and making the car easier for crews to work on, with plans calling for changes including a new six-speed gearbox. An upgraded cooling system is designed to help the R8 perform better in high temperature conditions and new openings in the body work will allow crews to inspect wear parts without pulling everything apart. The first two 2010 cars were have been delivered to UK-based United Autosport, and another 10 are slated to go out over the next several weeks. Teams running 2009 cars will also have an upgrade kit available to bring their cars up to the new spec.

Mine?s Release Pricing for Carbon Front Bumper for Nissan GT-R

The GT-R’s front end is well designed for both cooling and aero purposes. It’s hard to improve on it but with enough dedication and application of sound principles and by putting a lot of thought into the design, the team at Mine’s did just that. The new Mine’s Dry Carbon Front Bumper which we debuted on GTRBlog in January is now ready and pricing has been released.

The bumper itself is priced at 890,000 yen minus the canards. The Mine’s Carbon Canard Type-II that integrate so well with the front bumper are priced separately at 160,000 yen. As a set the whole lot will be 1,050,000 yen in Japan.

On the topic of Mine’s they’ve also put together a FAQ sheet on the Mine’s power upgrades which are currently available. These upgrades aren’t factoring in the Mine’s Complete Engine or any other new power upgrades that may be in the pipeline.

These two sheets give details on what the upgrades consist of, the target power increases with a few technical details in there as well. There’s also a nicely formatted web version that is possibly easier to read.

Take a look at these sheets in the gallery below and head over to the Mine’s website to contact them if you have any more questions!

Agency Power Electric Valve Controlled Exhaust System for Nissan GT-R

Agency Power set out with a goal to design and build an exhaust that would be suitable for almost every GT-R owner. Sounds quite ambitious and it would be if they didn’t have a trick up their sleeve. This exhaust is really two exhausts in one with an electronically controlled valve to switch between the two. The valve controls the exhaust flow and can vary it to direct through rear mufflers or straight out the quad matte black tips.

This feat is doubly impressive when you consider it usually only features in the top end exhausts commanding big dollars but the Agency Power system crafted from 304 stainless will only set you back $4,000. Check out what it sounds like in the video below…

While we’re on the topic of Agency Power exhausts though, you might also want to checkout their range of catted and non-catted downpipes for the GT-R. These stainless items are 3″ in diameter and show decent gains on the dyno.

More information can be found by browsing the Agency Power website below…
